About twenty people died and several were injured on Thursday because of a construction collapse. The incident occurred on Kolkata, one of the busiest cities in India. It exactly happened at the Girish Park side. It was reported that seventy people have got injured, and they were admitted in two hospitals. Kolkata is the capital of West Bengal. The hospital officials told the press that around twenty-one have died on the spot. The collapse took place at noon near Burrabazar.

It is the trading center and also the highest congested area in Kolkata. More than one hundred people got trapped under trucks, cars, rickshaws and debris. A rescue operation was taken immediately. Ramesh Kejriwal, one of the witnesses, told that he heard a loud noise all of a sudden and got scared. He told that more than one hundred and fifty people were under the debris. Destroyed rickshaws, smashed yellow taxis and trapped people with bloody legs were seen as a result of collapsed concrete slabs and girders. The total measurement of the overpass is one hundred yards. Other sections are still standing.

Mamta Banerjee is the elected minister of Kolkata told that the mistake is due to a private builder. He has missed several deadlines and not yet finished the construction. It was said that the overpass should have been finished three years before. The construction has delayed six times. Building collapse and falling has become common in India. The regulations are not properly enforced and the builders fail to use standard materials for the construction. The innocent people are the victims as the result of their carelessness.

Yogesh Sharma, who was sitting near the road, commented that he was standing with friends while the bridge collapsed. He did not know what to do when there were fear and voices around. He lives in the neighborhood. He added that bridge collapsed and fell after a huge sound.
